November Dinner/Zoom Meeting: John Taecker of Underwriters Laboratories (UL)

The 2022 California Residential Code will be in effect starting January 1, 2023, and John Taecker of UL will cover the significant changes in the new code. He will also cover topics important to home inspectors, such as: smoke and CO alarms, fireplace inserts, fire and flood damaged electrical equipment, new flammable refrigerants, sealing of air ducts, proper clothes dryer exhaust, and replacement circuit breakers. This will also be a great opportunity for home inspectors to bring questions they have regarding the applicable codes and product certifications.
5:30pm Pre-Meeting Chapter president Paul Barraza will review installation guidelines for heat pump water heaters (Attendees with earn an additional ASHI CE)
6:45pm Comment Review Brian Cogley, past president, will provide a report writing analysis using member-submitted comments to improve clarity and the principles of Identification, Implication, and Recommendation.
7:00pm Dinner Enjoy a handcrafted dinner by our professional personal chef, Malika Henderson.

7:00pm Chapter Meeting During dinner, chapter president Paul Barraza will lead a short business meeting to cover chapter and ASHI business, committee reports, and upcoming educational opportunities.
7:45pm Main Speaker John Taecker will give a presentation on upcoming code changes and other code & product specification topics. (Attendees with earn an additional ASHI CE)
John has worked for UL for over 36 years. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and is a California Registered Professional Engineer in Safety Engineering. He manages UL’s code development activities, has served on various building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical model code development committees, and actively participates in all levels of the code development process for NFPA, ICC and IAPMO codes. He is a nationally recognized speaker on electrical, building, mechanical, and plumbing products and installations. He serves on the IAEI Southwestern Section Board of Directors, and is a Professional Member of IAEI, IAPMO, and ICC.
