May Dinner Meeting: New Smoke Alarm Standards with Skip Walker

Beginning in January 2020, the biggest change in the UL 217 smoke alarm standard since its inception in the 1970s goes into effect. For the first time, UL 217 will use polyurethane foam for the flaming and smoldering tests. Skip Walker will take a look at the historical issues with the previous generation of smoke alarms and fire death statistics.
5:30pm Pre-Meeting Eric Meyer, will present his magnum opus work about the word “vent” and how it’s use in home inspection reports can be helpful, confusing, or just plain wrong. (Attendees with earn an additional ASHI CE)
6:45pm Comment Review Brian Cogley, past president, will provide a report writing analysis using member-submitted comments to improve clarity and the principles of Identification, Implication, and Recommendation.

7:00pm Chapter Meeting During dinner, chapter president Paul Barraza will lead a short business meeting to cover chapter and ASHI business, committee reports, and upcoming educational opportunities.
7:45pm Main Speaker Skip Walker will have a presentation about smoke alarms and the new UL 217 standard. (Attendees with earn an additional ASHI CE)
