July Virtual Meeting: James Goodrum, Certified Arborist

Major tree defects can be present in the most common large trees in the Bay Area, and arborist James Goodrum will have a slideshow to show some easy to use tools for inspectors to provide a level of risk rating for their reports, and when to recommend a follow-up an arborist for a more detailed inspection.
5:30pm – Login and Socialize – Join a few minutes early to sort out technical issues and chat with your fellow inspectors.
6:00pm – Pre-Meeting – Paul Barraza, chapter president, will have a presentation on how home inspectors can use home inspections to help fight climate change and save their clients money. (Attendees will earn an additional ASHI CE)
7:00pm – Chapter Meeting – Chapter president Paul Barraza will lead a short business meeting to cover chapter and ASHI business, committee reports, and upcoming educational opportunities.
7:30pm – Main Speaker – James Goodrum will discuss major tree defects and hazard trees.
James is a Registered Consulting Arborist (#654) with the American Society of Consulting Arborists (ASCA); and an ISA Certified Arborist and Tree Risk Assessor. Originally from England, he arrived in the US when his wife relocated to California in 2012. Since that time, he has worked as a utility forester all over the Peninsula, and as an Urban Forestry Inspector for the Bureau of Urban Forestry (DPW) with the City & County of San Francisco.
For the past few years he has been providing consulting arborist services to landowners, HOAs, developers and construction companies in the form of Tree Management Plans, Tree Protection Plans for Construction, as well as reports for City & County Tree Ordinances.
He also volunteers at the UC Berkeley Botanic Garden providing assistance to the gardeners and landscapers as well as practicing his tree climbing skills for use in canopy inspections and wildlife surveys. He lives in Oakland, having moved from Montara in 2019. He enjoys hiking, camping, gardening and playing lots of sports.
