February Dinner Meeting: Wildfire Codes with Dr. Steve Quarles

Wildfires have caused significant damage and loss of life in recent years, and the 2017 Tubbs Fire showed that such fires are not limited to forested mountain areas. Dr. Steve Quarles is an expert in the performance of buildings exposed to wildland fire and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies. Dr. Quarles will have a presentation covering the codes so you can help your clients be wildfire smart.
5:30pm Pre-Meeting Brian Cogley, will have a slideshow and discussion about conditions that are commonly found during inspections, and how to report on them. (Attendees with earn an additional ASHI CE)
6:45pm Comment Review Brian Cogley, past president, will provide a report writing analysis using member-submitted comments to improve clarity and the principles of Identification, Implication, and Recommendation.
7:00pm Dinner Enjoy a handcrafted dinner by our personal chef, Malika Henderson. This month’s menu: “South of the Border Seafood”

7:00pm Chapter Meeting During dinner, chapter president Paul Barraza will lead a short business meeting to cover chapter and ASHI business, committee reports, and upcoming educational opportunities.
7:45pm Main Speaker Steve Quarles will discuss WUI construction standards
Dr. Steve Quarles is an expert in the performance of buildings exposed to wildland fire and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies. He was formerly the Chief Scientist for Wildfire and Durability at the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety, and a Natural Resources Advisor at the University of California Cooperative Extension.
