More now than ever, home buyers are interested in making their homes better for the environment, not to mention – power their electric vehicles. Home inspectors can play a critical role in educating buyers and directing them to possible rebate programs. Emily Alvarez of BayREN, and John Shipman of Franklin Energy will discuss rebate programs, certifications, and ancillary services that home inspectors can add to boost revenue.
5:30pm – Login and Socialize – Join a few minutes early to sort out technical issues and chat with your fellow inspectors.
6:00pm – Pre-Meeting – Structural engineer Thor Matteson, will have a presentation on “Settlement and Worse: Case Studies of Nature Gradually Destroying Houses” (Attendees will earn an additional ASHI CE)
7:00pm – Chapter Meeting – Chapter president Paul Barraza will lead a short business meeting to cover chapter and ASHI business, committee reports, and upcoming educational opportunities.
7:30pm – Main Speaker – Emily Alvarez and John Shipman will discuss rebates, certifications, and opportunities for home inspectors to add ancillary services.
Emily Alvarez is a Program Manager with StopWaste where she manages the Bay Area Regional Energy Network’s Green Labeling Program and provides climate action support to cities in Alameda County. The Green Labeling program promotes the U.S. DOE Home Energy Score and aims to increase energy transparency in the single family home market. Emily’s background crosses green building, planning, and climate policy. She has worked at the U.S. Green Building Council on the development of the LEED v4 rating system and for public agencies and the private sector advancing energy policy, reducing GHG emissions, and developing long-range planning documents.
John Shipman is Senior Director of National Training Business & Education for Franklin Energy, and is an award-winning, nationally recognized thought leader in green real estate innovation, practice and training, including sustainability and resiliency training. A pioneer in training and mentoring of real estate professionals on green and resource efficient homes and the benefits of an energy efficient economy. He has trained more than 5,000 Real Estate and Contracting Professionals in the practice of green real estate and green building fundamentals.
